About

My name is Chris Porter (@uprightvinyl), and I’m a Solutions Architect at AWS, specialising in VMware technologies such as VMware Cloud on AWS. In a past life I worked as an Infrastructure Architect at a bank in central London. I write about technology and the tech community, mainly in relation to VMware and AWS. My opinions here are my own.

I’ve been VMware certified (VCP-DCV) since 2010 (4, 5, 5.5, 6 and 6.5), and more recently achieved the VCAP-DCV 6.5 Design and Deploy certifications. In 2019 I took the next step in VMware certifications and successfully obtained my VCDX certification (I’m number 281). I’m also AWS certified as a Solutions Architect Associate and Developer Associate. And back along time ago, I held the MCSE 2003 certification from Microsoft.

In 2017 I took part and won Season 5 of Virtual Design Master.

Also in 2017, I became a first time VMware vExpert and gained the vExpert Cloud ‘badge’. I’ve been a vExpert ever since.

You can find me on Twitter, LinkedIn, and face to face at the London VMUG.
